Hi, I am Christian.

My career as a colorist began in 2006 at Optix in Hamburg. Back then you still sat “in the telecine” to grade, the image came off a freshly developed reel of film and at the end you held a genuine DigiBeta in your hands. Simpler times! Hundreds of commercials, countless shorts and features and more than one technical revolution later, ten years had flown by.

Since 2016 I have been working as a freelance colorist in Hamburg. I have my own grading room with live streaming, but I am just as happy to come to you. As a freelancer I move seamlessly between the worlds: I am as much at home grading feature film and series as I am in commercials.

As a senior colorist I see myself not only as a creative partner on equal footing, but also as your safety net for technical questions. After 20 years in the job I know exactly where a workflow tends to grind. Color science, complex VFX shots, ACES, SDR, HDR, NDR: I keep track of everything and make sure the image looks good technically as well as visually – horizontal or vertical, TV or cinema.

Grading sessions with agency, client, DoP and director in the room are part of my everyday work. Many people, little time, and the eternal question of whether it is all “yummy enough” yet – I don’t let crowded rooms or tight deadlines rattle me. I speak fluent German and English, can swear in Finnish if required, and have also mastered the fine art of simply shutting up and getting things done.
